Creating a new crossing for the Thames in London is a pretty rare thing, I think the Millennium Bridge by Tate Modern and St Paul’s was the last in 2000. Cursed by a resonating wobble, the opening of such crossings cause plenty of public attention.
The Garden Bridge then, planned to help open up areas of the South Bank such as Temple, is in the media spotlight as its plans begin to come together. Envisioned to create additional green spaces, this pedestrian bridge does have ambition.
In order to push it’s influence and media profile, SomeOne have put together an identity that’s supposed to grow and take shape organically.
Currently it’s a Futura esq looking font with some leafy vines growing off it. Not a lot to dislike. And green. Because gardens are green.
Designed by Thomas Heatherwick and inspired by actress and campaigner, Joanna Lumley, the Bridge will provide a vital new route between north and south London and feature plants, trees, woodland and meandering walkways to be used and enjoyed by all.
