What happens when you rely on gradients in a logo

When they say “lets use a gradient on our logo”, you say “HOLD ON!” and show them this:

For this, my friends is the 1 colour solution for Barclaycard’s “orange peel” globe logo. I spotted it on a banner advertising the Barclaycard Arena (which, following the trend for calling venues after sponsors, is the new name for the NIA in Birmingham).

By jove! It’s terrible, especially at the top where the peel meets and takes on a stroke. Shudder.

Here is the full colour logo, which looks better, but is still a little generic for my liking.

Submit a Designs for Review

I’d be delighted to receive your recommendations for brands and logos to review. All submissions should provide a link to a portfolio page or case study with multiple images. The more information you can provide, the more likely a brand will be reviewed.

Only real projects will be reviewed, please don’t link to concept logos or proposed rebrands.

Submission does not guarantee a review. Size, quality and other subjective factors all play into what might be reviewed.
